The Arcadia Droptail is a peaceful retreat that goes beyond car ownership and redefines the luxury coach-built cars from Rolls-Royce. This custom build is the third commission for Droptail, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to realizing automotive fantasies.
Inspired by the dreamlike world of Arcadia, the Droptail is meant to be a tranquil haven. Rich materials and a tactile emphasis are highlighted in the design showcasing a minimalist concept. Inspired by the client’s preference for natural settings and architectural styles the car’s appearance has been affected —from organic British forms to modernist sky gardens.
It’s apparent in the designing and modeling that the client truly values the Droptail’s original design. The car’s dramatic body lines, cosseting cabin, and powerful stance struck a deep connection with people, and the “sail cowls,” modeled after a yacht’s jib, added an extra degree of intimacy.
Exterior is a celebration of form
The coachbuilders’ commitment to preserving the car’s form is visible in the Droptail’s exterior featuring a captivating two-tone harmony. The primary body color, a classy white that shimmers in the sunlight is the result of mixing glass and aluminum particles into the paint. This generates an endless sense of mystery and a compelling sense of depth. The client has carefully chosen Bespoke silver accents to provide a stunning counterpoint.
The carbon fiber used to construct the bottom portions is painted to match the Bespoke silver. This highlights the car’s dynamic energy and visually “lifts” the profile. The alloy wheels, vane pieces, and grille surround all have a brilliant, mirror-polished finish paying homage to Rolls-Royce’s history.
The paint scheme highlights the Droptail’s delicate elements of design and sleek lines. Meanwhile, Sunlight highlights the car’s sculptural beauty as it bounces and reflects off of it.
Interior is a sanctuary of wood
The interior of the Arcadia Droptail is a particularly personal representation of the client’s style. The most exquisite material is wood, which is carefully selected for its richness, texture, grain, and color. Santos Straight Grain was chosen because of its eye-catching interlocking grain pattern and contemporary appeal. It was a tremendous task to use this high-density mahogany throughout the interior, but Rolls-Royce’s artisans perfected it with unflinching determination.
Owing to the vehicle’s possible exposure to a variety of weather, a special Bespoke lacquer was developed. It removes the requirement for regular reapplication. This novel coating was put to the test to make sure it would hold up in the worst circumstances.
A two-tone leather interior with Bespoke tones balances the wood. While the contrasting Bespoke Tan leather strikes an ideal balance, the predominant Bespoke White leather echoes the external paintwork. The biggest continuous wood portion ever seen in a Rolls-Royce is the trademark Rolls-Royce shawl panel, which is also featured inside. It is made of Santos Straight Grain veneer in the Arcadia Droptail, and it blends in perfectly with the door linings.
The unusual internal curvatures need creative engineering solutions. With carbon fiber layering techniques inspired by Formula 1, Rolls-Royce experts developed a novel foundation that guarantees the stability of the wood even in high-speed driving situations.
A Bespoke Timepiece
The most exquisite Rolls-Royce clock face ever made is housed under the Santos Straight Grain fascia. It makes it a masterwork of haute horlogerie. A modest tribute to the brand’s 119-year history, this magnificent clock has a guilloché pattern made of raw metal with 119 facets. The hour markers are extremely small, each measuring just 0.1mm, and the clock hands are a blend of polished and brushed surfaces.
Even the strict criteria of the watchmaking industry were exceeded in the development and testing of this clock. Each component, including the hands and the Bespoke “double R” monogram, is painstakingly made from solid stainless steel and polished by hand.
A Statement of Cosmopolitan Luxury
Reflecting the client’s international lifestyle, the Arcadia Droptail is the left-hand drive for ease of use around the world. The client even experienced the car virtually in various locations using Rolls-Royce’s “holodeck” technology, ensuring a perfect fit for their global travels.
A Collaboration of Dreams
A truly remarkable partnership has resulted in the Arcadia Droptail. The Coachbuild process diligently transformed the client’s concept over a period of four years into an actual piece of artwork. The design team thoroughly investigated their interests to produce a look that precisely reflects the brand ranging from commonplace items to vacation spots.
The Arcadia Droptail stands as a testament to not just automotive excellence, but to the power of transforming dreams into rolling works of art.
